Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck Extravaganza Hosted in Conger Park
[Jackson, Tennessee, April 08] Almost eighty individuals gathered in Conger Park in Jackson on Saturday, April 8, to celebrate community, acceptance, and family at an egg hunt and potluck hosted by West Tennessee LGBTQ+ Support. More than 1000 candy-filled eggs, several baskets, and a $15 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card along with all the food and drinks were donated by parents and individuals of the group, Jackson Pride, West Tennessee Reconciling United Methodists, Madison Area Democratic Women, and Hub City Pride Runners.
Children and adults of all ages gathered underneath the pavilion to mingle with the LGBTQ+ community in the area for a day of fun filled with egg hunts, face painting, prizes, and the Easter Bunny. Scott Murray, an organizer from West Tennessee Reconciling Methodists attended the event with his daughters Olivia, who dressed as the Easter Bunny, and Emma.
“It’s a great opportunity to engage with everyone in our community and show everyone acceptance and affirmation where a lot of times marginalized folks in our community don’t get to have those opportunities,” Murray said.
Families in attendance were grateful for the safe space offered by the event to make new connections in person that they would not make normally. Other individuals like Ember Nox attended the event because of the community involvement that is not seen often in the area.
“I don’t really know many people in town, so the support group has been great,” Nox said.
West Tennessee LGBTQ+ Support is an organization dedicated to educating, empowering and enlightening the LGBTQ+ community across West Tennessee with resources, aid and options.
